JPG / JPEG format guide and tools

JPEG uses lossy compression and is suited to photographs. JPG and JPEG are extensions for the same format.

Before you convert

Choose WebP to compare size at a chosen quality, or PNG for lossless encoding of the decoded pixels. Neither restores detail already lost to JPEG. Use a background color when converting transparent images to JPG.

Check each tool’s processing label: browser and server tools handle files differently.
