How to use Add a Text Watermark to PDF

  1. 1

Select a plain PDF and read its pages.

  2. 2

Enter a short watermark such as DRAFT or REVIEW COPY and choose opacity.

  3. 3

Create the watermarked PDF and inspect it before distribution.

Label the status of a document visibly

Mark review copies, internal drafts or sample documents with a consistent visual label. The watermark is horizontal and centered on the visible page, with its font size reduced when needed to fit. Opacity lets you balance visibility of the label against readability of the page beneath it.

What to expect

Text is limited to 80 printable English characters supported by the built-in font. Image watermarks, diagonal placement and arbitrary font uploads are not included. A watermark is not encryption, ownership verification, redaction or protection against editing.

Private browser processing and practical limits

Your PDF content is processed in this browser and is not uploaded to FileNimble. Input and output remain in memory until you clear the tool or leave the page. Downloads are saved by your browser. Large or unusually complex PDFs can exceed available device memory even below the stated limits; use a smaller plain PDF if processing fails.

Encrypted PDFs, interactive forms, signed documents, portfolios, embedded files and scripts are rejected. Document-level bookmarks and navigation structures are not preserved by page-copy operations. Results are not certified archival, redacted or sanitized documents. Review important output before sharing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a watermark prevent copying?

No. It is ordinary PDF text that labels the document visually. It does not restrict printing, copying or editing.

Which characters are supported?

Printable English letters, digits, spaces and punctuation are supported. Unsupported characters produce an error rather than an unreadable result.

Is existing content covered?

The label is drawn over the page. Lower opacity leaves the underlying content more visible, but you should review every important page.
